We are willing to pay up to £40m for one of the lad from marseille or Lyonshall or benteke. Never thought I'd see the day where we'd spend THAT much on a single player.

Anyhow WHO would you all prefer we go for I'd say the chap from lyon

The Benteke thing must be a rouse. Why on earth would we sign a player we don't need and we have an exact replica of that, injuries aside, is starting to deliver.

I definitely wouldn't swap Carroll for Benteke no way.

Re: According to "sky sources"
Surely we wouldn't spend anything like that on Benteke! A swap with AC maybe but £40m!!!

"Also saying Guardiola will bring Lewandowski to Man City."

and this is my point, does Lewandowski make Man City any better in attack? He's not better than the main striker they have so I only going to improve them when Kunt is injured.

Where as we hopefully can buy a striker for £20-£25m who is better than what we have, so should improve us.

Is Guardiola allowed to touch any Bayern players though?

And David Luis showed originally that paying ridiculous money for defenders doesn't mean they're any good.

Watched the PSG v Monaco game on Sunday night and you couldn't tell if you were watching a 50 million pound player or Paul Hilton in his prime.

Re: According to "sky sources"
Interesting that the big stars bought last summer have been in the Kante to Payet range ie £5m to £15m.
Man City's £30m centre backs and the ones in the £50m bracket (Sterling and lesser so DeBruyne) have been mediocre at best.
As said now virtually ever Premiership club can afford a £10m player and the marginal improvement in those clubs is much bigger than Chelsea adding another £40m player.

Can see Lukaku going to Real or someone like PSG. Thank God , am realllllly bored of him now.
Also saying Guardiola will bring Lewandowski to Man City.

Re: According to "sky sources"
Don't think Man City or Liverpool will struggle to strengthen, as they will both have managers players would be more than happy to sign for.

Still, whoever they sign still have to fit into the English game.

Re: According to "sky sources"
Thing is, P son....they all said the same last year. Chelsea won it at a canter, and Man City, Man Utd and Liverpool were all meant to 'rebuild'. They all went out and spunked a fortune and got worse.

Re: According to "sky sources"
As mentioned earlier on this thread, it will be interesting to see how Chelsea, Man City, Man United and Liverpool go about their undoubted major overhauls. They may find recruitment a bit more difficult for two reasons - firstly, they won't be the only clubs with big budgets, and secondly, any player not guaranteed a starting place may well think twice about joining.

Reports are Real Madrid have bid 60 mil for Lukaku!

Good if happens! Gets him out of our faces

Re: According to "sky sources"
Agree with terry.

There's more than enough quality available globally at perfectly reasonable prices. You just have to find it. Surely last summer shows that more than ever.

Granted, people will chucking a few million on the price tags for every English club this summer, but generally, I'd prefer us to carry on with what we've been doing.

Re: According to "sky sources"
And as Croe said further down, times have changed for ever.

An ex pro on the radio was saying that for a club in the second teir of the PL, sensible investment of say £40m across the squad can have a huge incremental percentage improvement on the starting 11. The same spent at say City, will have marginal effect - Mangala for example.

Then add that not all of these 'big clubs' spend well, then injury and you have a Leiceser situation or as he said, a West Ham who have both a powerful and deep squad who are no longer afraid to go toe to toe with anyone home or away.

Very interesting times

Terry

If an English club wants a marquee player, a striker at that, who will score 20 goals, the bidding starts at £40m this summer mate

Supply and demand, there are not many of those players about and there is plenty of money

Also, there is another factor at play, that is to be seen as a 'major player'. For existing players, attracting investment and generally boosting morale and dare I say it, brand.

We are in a unique position right now and I expect that the transfer fee we pay will be huge by our standards

Re: According to "sky sources"
Hernandez was supposedly a target last summer and has gone on to great success in the Bundesliga. 23 goals in 31 appearances so far.
Bayer paid less than 8 mill for him. All this 40 mill for another striker is so much nonsense imo.

I do wonder what planet some people are on even discussing the possibility of getting Lakaku in the summer. You've got to have something wrong with you to even think that's up for debate.

Personally as I pretty much said on the other thread, talk now of BFS is fucking boring and I have no idea why people are so keen to keep going back to it.

West Ham have rarely had as good as season as we are having and rarely been in such as strong position going into the last lap of the season.

So personally I am enjoying it, the games are great, the days out are great, the atmospheres are great and coming out of Chelsea having been robbed after being by far the more superior side although felt like a defeat in the immediate aftermouth in hindsight it is far better than when we held them to a draw a couple of season ago when the point was celebrated like a victory.

BFS served his purpose and now that's history, Bilic is the future and that's all I'm really interested in.

Let's hope your right. This is why Champions League would be good, to draw some top quality players in. Would be something else to see Lukaku in a West Ham shirt, being fed by Payet, Lanzini, Antonio and Tore, cheered on by 60k :-)

Re: According to "sky sources"
You really don't have to go back a lifetime to see how far we've come when you actually look at the squad, so when you get to this stage you really have to start looking at real quality to get into the first 11 if everyone is fit.

If you look at our 2nd string

Randolph
O'Brien - Tomkins - Collins - Hendrie
Oxford
Obiang - Song
Moses - Carroll - Valencia

and that aint a bad side, I bet Villa would love a team that strong.

So when it comes to the first 11, I'm sure a few have a slightly different opinion but I think most agree it would be....

Adrian
Byram - Reid - Ogbonna - Cresswell
Noble - Kouyate
Antonio - Lanzini - Payet
Sakho

If you look at that then we are really, really strong, a few positions I guess are open to debate. I'm a big fan of Tomkins who you could include over Reid, Obiang is clearly a very, very good player plenty would like to see in the first team as well.

So as far as new signings go, I would think Sakho and Antonio would be the ones most at risk for their places but then everything goes on form, so that 11 can and will of course change with form and more often injury.
